Featured rink coaches

Here are some of the coaches who led the teams who autographed these rinks (including two of the three Canadien coaches during the three seasons: Claude Ruel and Toe Blake)!

Hall of famer, Bowman coached in the NHL 30 years, 8 of them in Montréal. He led the '71-2 Habs (first year there), to a dominant season & Cup win.
HOF team builder Sinden, was first a Bruins' coach for 6 seasons. This, the '66-'67 season was his first of those as this team's autographed rink.

Under Claude Ruel's leadership, the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup on May 4th, 1969 with a 4-0 series win vs. the Blues. He signed the team rink.
HOF team builder, Keith Allen was head coach that season. He later became the team GM who helped put together the "Broad Street Bullies" that won consecutive Stanley Cups in '74 and again in '75
Canadien legent, Hector "Toe" Blake spent 13 seasons as a player with the team, then eventually became coach, winning 8 Stanley Cups derrière la bande, and signing the '66-'67 rink in his next to last season.

As coach/GM for the North Stars' during their 1st season and for part of this one: the '68-'69 campaign before becoming full time GM. Previously a Bruins scout, he signed Bobby Orr at age 14 for the Oshawa Generals team.

Another way of saying this is that virtually every key, regular player in the lineups signed the rinks.

Note that there were trades during the year and signers represent one snapshot moment in time while the rink was in the captains hands, collecting teammates John Henry’s.

Of the 271 regular season goals, 270 of them were scored by the 19 signers of that rink, including Toe Blake.

The Bruins of that season had its 20 rink signers score 171 of a total of 182 goals. (Bobby Orr had 13 of them.)

In its second year of existence in ’67-’68, Moose Vasko acquired signatures from those representing 95.7% of all his team’s goal scoring.

With help from Captain Ted Hampson, equally as impressive, signatures represent 96% of goal scorers in his team’s 2nd season ever.
